Stock Market Today, 2 November 2026: GIFT Nifty Points to a Gap-Up Open, but a Wall Street Tech Sell-Off and $111 Oil Keep Risks Alive

The Indian market is set for a positive start on Monday, 2 November 2026. GIFT Nifty was trading around 23,260 to 23,300 in early trade, roughly 0.9 to 1.1 percent above Friday’s Nifty close of 23,053.10. But global cues are mixed: US technology stocks fell sharply on Friday, crude oil is still above $110 a barrel, and Friday’s Indian rally rested on a narrow set of stocks. This article sets out the numbers, the levels analysts are watching and what could change the picture.

Quick Answer

GIFT Nifty indicates a gap-up open of about 200 to 250 points for the Nifty 50. Friday’s closes were Nifty 23,053.10 and Sensex 74,459.53. Wall Street ended sharply lower, with the Nasdaq down 2.86 percent, the S&P 500 down 1.82 percent and the Dow down 1.09 percent. Brent crude traded near $111 after rising about 13.6 percent in October. Analysts see the Nifty in a 22,850 to 23,250 range, with 23,000 as support and 23,200 as resistance. A close above 23,200 would suggest further strength, while a close below 22,900 would weaken the setup. These are indications, not guarantees.

About This Guide

This article is written by the editorial desk of FinanceChecks.com, an independent Indian personal finance publication. It uses pre-market data and commentary from Dalal Street Investment Journal, ScanX and Univest published on 31 October and 2 November 2026. Figures are from the early morning and will change once trading begins, so please check live levels. This is educational content and not investment advice, and we are not SEBI-registered advisers.

Global Cues: Mixed

MarketMove
NasdaqDown 2.86% to 25,437
S&P 500Down 1.82% to 7,580.07
Dow JonesDown 1.09% to 51,770.31
Hang SengUp 1.46% in early trade
Shanghai CompositeDown 1.44%
NikkeiDown 0.07%
Germany’s DAXDown 0.85% on Friday

The US sell-off was led by technology. Reports link it to worries about the scale of artificial intelligence spending and the returns from it after results from Intel and Amazon, with Intel shares falling more than 28 percent. I could not find reliable early-morning figures for the Kospi and Taiwan’s index in the sources used, so I have left them out.

For India, this matters because IT stocks led Friday’s gains, and Univest described the rally as narrow and IT-led. A weak Nasdaq could put those gains under pressure, even if GIFT Nifty points higher. That is my reading of the data, not a forecast.

What Is Driving the Indian Market

Reliance earnings. Reliance Industries reported a 41 percent rise in consolidated net profit to ₹25,548 crore for the September quarter, with revenue up 29 percent. Its board also approved raising up to ₹15,000 crore through non-convertible debentures. Reliance has a large weight in the indices, so the stock is in focus.

Other results. NTPC’s standalone profit rose 14.3 percent to ₹5,319.9 crore. Bharat Electronics’ profit rose 19.7 percent to ₹1,540.4 crore. Bank of Baroda’s profit rose 35.8 percent to ₹6,531.5 crore with gross NPAs down to 1.78 percent. GAIL’s consolidated profit rose 139 percent to ₹4,720 crore, and its board approved an IPO of its city gas distribution unit, GAIL Gas. Today, ITC, Marico, Container Corporation, Devyani International, Granules India, KEC International, NALCO, Petronet LNG, UPL and Wockhardt report results.

Auto sales. October numbers were strong, which points to festive demand. Maruti Suzuki’s total sales rose 20.9 percent to 2.67 lakh units. Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle sales rose 23 percent to 75,426 units and commercial vehicle sales rose 27 percent to 47,652 units. Hyundai’s sales rose 17.7 percent to 82,299 units, and TVS Motor’s rose 29 percent to about 7 lakh units.

Crude oil. Brent rose about 13.6 percent in October on supply worries in West Asia and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, and traded near $111 this morning after easing about 2 percent. High oil prices matter for India’s import bill, inflation and companies such as airlines, paints and tyre makers.

Institutional flows. In the latest available data, foreign investors were net buyers of ₹3,598.54 crore while domestic institutions were net sellers of ₹817.51 crore. Flows can reverse quickly, so check the latest figures.

Levels Analysts Are Watching

IndexSupportResistanceExpected range
Nifty 5023,000 and 22,90523,118 and 23,20022,850 to 23,250
Sensex74,082 and 74,00074,500 and 74,74373,900 to 75,000

Univest says a close above 23,200 on the Nifty would confirm a fresh leg up and a close below 22,900 would put the setup in question. Options data shows a put concentration between 22,700 and 23,000, which analysts treat as a support zone. Weekly options expiry falls on Tuesday, 3 November, so expect larger swings around that session. The Nifty’s range on Friday was 22,905.10 to 23,118.10.

What Could Change the Picture

  • A weak IT sector. If the Nasdaq slide drags Indian IT stocks, the index could give up part of the gap-up.
  • Oil. A move back above $115 would revive inflation and rate worries, which have weighed on the market in recent weeks.
  • The US yield and the dollar. A US 10-year yield near 4.94 percent keeps pressure on global equity valuations.
  • Results. Strong results can lift individual stocks, but a rise in profit does not always mean a rise in price.
  • Expiry volatility. Options expiry can exaggerate intraday moves.

What Should Long-Term Investors Do?

Daily outlooks are mostly useful for traders. If you invest through SIPs for several years, a 200-point gap-up or gap-down should not change your plan. Keep your SIPs running, avoid making decisions based on a single morning’s indication, and use volatility as a reason to check that your asset allocation still matches your risk tolerance. If you trade short term, decide your levels and stop-loss before the open, and size positions so one bad day does not hurt.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Will the Sensex and Nifty open higher today? GIFT Nifty at about 23,260 to 23,300 suggests a positive open, around 0.9 to 1.1 percent above Friday’s Nifty close. It is an indication and the opening can differ.

2. Where did the Sensex and Nifty close on Friday, 30 October 2026? The Sensex closed at 74,459.53, up 308.49 points or 0.42 percent, and the Nifty 50 closed at 23,053.10, up 116.35 points or 0.51 percent.

3. What are the key Nifty support and resistance levels today? Analysts cite support at 23,000 and 22,905 and resistance at 23,118 and 23,200, with an expected range of 22,850 to 23,250.

4. Why did Wall Street fall on Friday? The Nasdaq fell 2.86 percent, the S&P 500 1.82 percent and the Dow 1.09 percent, led by technology stocks, on concerns about artificial intelligence spending and returns after results from Intel and Amazon.

5. How are crude oil prices affecting the Indian market? Brent rose about 13.6 percent in October and traded near $111 on 2 November. High oil raises India’s import bill and inflation risk and can weigh on oil-sensitive sectors.
